Chamomile Harvest - Nawaya Rural Heritage Initiative

The Rural Heritage Initiative is a program hosted by Nawaya, an NGO funded by Drosos, which aims to open and secure market opportunities for rural women through gastro tourism by educating visitors on local seasons, traditional products and heritage food recipes.

Photographed here is a small local women-owned business in Fayoum, by Mount Mudawara, during chamomile season. Hayam’s family, mother, daughters and granddaughters harvest chamomile flowers everyday, dry them and sell them as herbs to sustain a living.

The Chamomile Harvest project was exhibited as part of Cairo Food Week 2024
